The experienced car rental team at Dunedin Car Hire have put together some useful frequently asked questions to assist you in organising your rental vehicle arrangements. If you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to use the Contact Us page.

Do you offer one way vehicle hire?
The car hire rates listed within this site apply to round trips, however we are happy to provide a competitive quote for one way vehicle hire. We suggest you complete the Request a Quotation form and our customer service team will contact you.

We are planning a New Zealand holiday and would like to know if you recommend we book our rental vehicle in advance?
This depends on the time of year you are planning on travelling within New Zealand. We suggest that if you are travelling between November - April it would be prudent to book your rental car in advance to ensure you get your preferred type of vehicle. If you are visiting the ski fields in the Southern Lakes district during the winter season it would also be advisable to book in advance.

Is a deposit required to secure a rental vehicle and is there a cancellation fee?
No. Your credit card details are required to confirm your booking, however no deposit will be charged to your card. However, please note that if a booking is cancelled within 7 days prior to hire then a cancellation fee of 1 days hire or 10% cancellation fee (whichever is the greater) will apply.

Can I hire car child seats and snow chains from Dunedin Car Hire?
When you hire a car from Dunedin Car Rentals you also have the option of hiring child car seats, booster seats, ski racks and snow chains.

What is included in your rental rates?
All rental rates include insurance, unlimited kilometres, GST tax and free maps.

What type of vehicles do you have for hire?
Our vehicles are very modern and designed for corporate and discerning holiday travellers, which is why our cars are selected to provide an enjoyable, stylish and comfortable self-driving experience. However we do have a small budget fleet also available.

Is it safe to use my credit card online with Dunedin Car Hire?
Yes. We treat the security of your information very seriously. To ensure your security, all credit card transactions are secured by SSL, which encrypts the credit card number so as to make it unavailable to any other party.

What happens if I want to change the dates for my vehicle hire?
If you are experiencing any changes to your travel plans we suggest you advise us immediately.

Do you offer an airport pick up and/or drop off service?
We provide a complimentary airport pick up and drop off service, please advise us if you require this service when booking your rental car.

Are your hire vehicles automatic transmission or manual?
We have a range of automatic and manual vehicles. If you have a preferred choice please advise us and we will ensure you receive an appropriate vehicle.

Do you only hire vehicles for people visiting Dunedin?
No. We have agents located throughout all of New Zealand, including Dunedin, Queenstown, Invercargill, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland.

We are arriving in Port Chalmers as part of a cruise ship holiday. Do you provide rental vehicle pick and up and drop off at the Port?
We often arrange rental vehicles for cruise ship visitors staying in Dunedin or planning a tour around the lower South Island. We are happy to greet you at Port Chalmers with a suitable rental vehicle, and also arrange for complimentary drop-off back to your cruise ship.
